Voice navigation for horse riders

BridleNav

Privacy Policy

Last updated 16 September 2026

BridleNav collects as little about you as possible. You can use the whole app with no account at all — turn-by-turn navigation works without us knowing who you are. If you choose to create an account, we store your email address and the rides you record, so they can follow you to any phone you sign in on. You can delete any ride, or your whole account, whenever you like.

Who we are

BridleNav is operated by BridleNav Limited, which is the data controller under UK data protection law.

What stays on your phone

Whether or not you have an account, these are saved on your device only. They are never sent to us and we cannot see them:

Deleting the app deletes all of it.

Rides you record

When you record a ride, BridleNav saves it — the route name, distance, time and the GPS track — so you can look back on it.

You can delete any single ride in the app. Deleting your account removes all of your synced rides from our systems.

Routes you choose to share

If you submit a recorded ride as a community route, we receive the track, the directions and notes you wrote, and an anonymous identifier for your phone. You choose whether your name appears on the route; leave it blank and it stays anonymous.

You can trim the start and finish of a ride before you send it, so a route need never begin at your own yard. Every submission is read by us before it is published, and we may edit or decline it.

Reporting a problem

If you report a problem with a route, we receive the category you picked, anything you typed, and an anonymous identifier for your phone. Reports come to us and are not published. Please don’t include anyone’s name or personal details in the box.

Your location

BridleNav needs your location to work — knowing where you are on a route is how it tells you where to turn.

During live navigation, your location is used on your phone and is not stored. When you choose to record a ride, the GPS track of that ride is saved as described above.

Why we ask for “Always” location: riders pocket their phone and the screen locks. If location is only allowed while the app is open, the voice stops when the screen locks — which could leave you without directions in open country. You can decline, and the app will still work with the screen on.

Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your phone’s settings.

Your account and signing in

Creating an account is optional. If you choose to, we ask only for your email address. We sign you in with a one-time code sent to that email — there is no password to remember.

What we hold for your account: your email address, a display name if you set one, the rides you record, and the fact that you confirmed you are 13 or over. We use these only to identify you and to sync your rides between your devices.

Marketing: we will only email you about BridleNav news if you tick to opt in, and you can change your mind at any time.

Deleting your account: there is a “Delete account” button in the app. It permanently removes your account, your email and your synced rides from our systems.

The SOS feature

If you use SOS, your phone sends a text to the emergency contact you chose, containing your location and a map link. It is sent by your phone over your own network, directly to your contact. It does not pass through us and we never receive a copy.

BridleNav SOS is not an emergency service and is not monitored by anyone. In a real emergency, call 999.

Subscriptions

If you subscribe, payment is taken by Apple or Google, not by us. They hold your name, billing address and card details. We never see them.

We use RevenueCat to tell us whether a subscription is active. It receives an identifier for your device, store account or — if you are signed in — your BridleNav account, together with your purchase history. It does not receive your name or location.

How long we keep things

Where your information is held

Your account and your synced rides are stored using Supabase, on servers located in London, United Kingdom.

Mapbox supplies the map, and receives requests for the areas you look at. Tapping a what3words address opens their app or website; we send them nothing about you. Apple and Google handle payment and distribution. RevenueCat manages subscription status. Expo, the framework the app is built with, may collect crash reports.

Some of these are US companies, so limited information is processed outside the UK, covered by the safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to how we use it, take it elsewhere, or withdraw consent.

If you have an account we hold your email, display name and recorded rides; otherwise we hold very little, as most of what concerns you is on your own phone. Email charlotte@unthank-farm.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.

Children

BridleNav is for riders aged 13 and over. When you create an account we ask you to confirm you are 13 or older. We do not ask for or store your date of birth — only the fact that you confirmed, and when.

If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian is happy for you to use BridleNav.
